District Volunteer Positions


District Committee

District Chairman

The District Chairman is the leader of the district. The duties include:
  • Identify and recruit operating committee chairs
  • Initiate plans and help committee chairs recruit their committee members
  • Plan, with the District Executive, and preside over district committee meetings
  • Work with the District Commissioner and District Executive to coordinate the work of the district
  • With the District Executive, ensure the completion of district goals
  • Represent the district on the council executive board, once elected
  • Recognize individuals, committees, and chartered organizations for their accomplishments
  • Support local and national Scouting policies, procedures, and practices
  • Help secure support for Scouting from top community leaders through-out the district
  • Get public support for Scouting

District Finance Chair

  • Responsible to the district chairman
  • Ensure implementation of council finance policies
  • Serve as council finance committee member if so stated in the council bylaws
  • Recruit and train finance committee on tasks provided
  • Ensure the acquisition of funds for the council budget
  • Maintain a cooperative relationship with the United Way
  • Implement the Friends of Scouting campaign
  • Develop prospects and retain the interest of contributors
  • Support the council "project selling" program:  Popcorn
  • Support the council endowment development
  • Inform units of unit financing policy
  • Review units' funding project applications
  • Achieve district's share of council finance campaigns
  • Support district activities that involve income and expenses, assuring proper policy and control

District Membership Chair

  • Responsible to the district chairman
  • Interface with the council relationships chairman
  • Establish plan and objectives for membership growth
  • Track and attain membership growth objectives
  • Recruit and train organizers for units
  • Work with district commissioner and district training team to provide new units with training
  • Plan and conduct youth and chartered organization surveys
  • Cultivate interest of potential chartered organizations and community groups
  • Organize new packs, troops, crews, teams, and posts
  • Analyze district level membership
  • Implement year round membership plan
  • Identify and conduct recruiting methods for chartered organizations and units

District Program Chair

  • Responsible to the district chairman
  • Recruit the camping, training, advancement, and activities committee chairs
  • Ensure operating committee chairs are training for their assignments
  • Help operating committee chairs recruit members of their committees
  • Plan the district annual program
  • Set goals for program committees, track their progress, and ensure completion
  • Recognize individuals for their accomplishments

Camping and Outdoor Chair

  • Reports to the program chair
  • Develop annual schedule of meetings and projects
  • Recruit district camping committee
  • Understand each units camping and outdoor record
  • Implement the council outdoor promotion plan
  • Assist unit committees in understanding and implementing their outdoor program
  • Promote summer camp, high adventure, cub scout camping, and the Order of the Arrow
  • Assist the council camping and outdoor committee with facilities, particularly off-council sites
  • Promote the National Summertime Pack Camping Award and National Camping Award
  • Give guidance on health and safety concerns
  • Assist troops to achieve 10 days and nights of camping and attendance at a summer camp
  • Track and Attain camping and outdoor objectives

Training Chair

  • Reports to the program chair
  • Establish district training objectives to train leaders
  • Participate in and support council training committee objectives
  • Recruit and orient training committee members
  • Prepare an inventory of all district training
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate an annual district training program
  • Maintain unit and district training records
  • Promote attendance at all training courses
  • Give special assistance to untrained unit leaders
  • Provide training to new units
  • Approve applications for district training recognitions
  • Support wood badge training
  • Support specialized training such as PowWow and Den Chief training
  • Track and attain training objectives

Advancement and Recognition Chair

  • Reports to the program chair
  • Stimulate advancement and recognition of cub scouts, boy scouts, crews, teams, and posts
  • Ensure advancement and recognition remain in accordance with National requirements
  • Recruit and orient advancement committee members
  • Establish advancement goals for district packs and troops
  • Develop a plan to achieve district advancement goals
  • Assist packs and troops to evaluate advancement progress
  • Provide the council with recommendations of youth and adults qualifying for special recognition
  • Assist in understanding advancement procedures
  • Couch troop leaders in conducting boards of review and courts of honor
  • Give special assistance to units with poor advancement progress
  • Recruit and train merit badge councilors
  • Produce a merit badge councilor directory
  • Recommend unit and district Scouters for special district and council recognition
  • Track and attain advancement objectives
  • Implement council advancement and recognition objectives

Activities and Civic Service Chair

  • Reports to the program chair
  • Develop and implement a plan for activities and civic service projects in the district
  • Ensure activities remain in accordance with national policy
  • Recruit and orient the activities committee
  • Support and strengthen units by insuring the visibility and balance of district activities
  • Ensure Good Turn ideas through unit participation in civic and community activities
  • Coordinate activities at the district annual meeting and recognition dinner
  • Promote proper uniforming at special events
  • Implement council activities and civic service programs

District Commissioner Team

  • Heads up the commissioners
  • Recruits and staffs unit commissioners and roundtable staff

Unit Commissioners

  • Reports to the district commissioner
  • Supports the units of the district
  • Assists units

Cub Scout Roundtable commissioner and staff

  • Reports to the district commissioner
  • Provides program and materials for cub scout leaders at the district roundtable

Boy Scout Roundtable commissioner and staff

  • Reports to the district commissioner
  • Provides program and materials for cub scout leaders at the district roundtable

OA Lodge Adviser

  • Represents the OA to the district
  • Advises the district OA members

District Webmaster

  • Reports to the district chairman
  • Maintains the district website

District Dinner Chair

  • Reports to the activities chair
  • Organizes the district dinner
  • Recruits district dinner staff
